Clemens Sad, Pettitte Sadder

It is a sad day for this Yankees fan.   Roger Clemens was my favorite player, but no longer.   But it is not like I did not see it coming.   He has pitched so well for so long.   There have been rumors of him taking steroids in the last few years, so I am not surprised to hear his name mentioned in the report.   I do however feel very bad for his four kids, and it is not going to be fun for Clemens to have to explain to them what he did.

Due to the fact that Clemens is such good friends with Andy Pettitte, I guess I should not be shocked that Pettitte was implicated in the report as well.   But for some reason hearing his name makes me a lot more disappointed than I was when I heard about Clemens.   Pettitte is just so quiet and low-key that I never would expect him to cheat the game.   He is a fantastic teammate, and the Yankees have benefitted hugely from having him on their team, both this past year and in his previous stint.   And this was certainly not good timing, considering he just officially returned for the upcoming season.

It sounds like Pettitte was using HGH to recover from his elbow injuries, while Clemens was really hardcore into the steroids to improve his game.   My view of Pettitte will forever be tainted, but I have lost nearly all the respect I had for Clemens.   All of what he accomplished with the Yankees is tainted, not to mention what he did for Toronto and Houston.   If, and I mean IF, he gets into the Hall of Fame, he does not deserve to wear a Yankees hat.   I for one do not want him associated with our team anymore.   If he did not use steroids while in Boston, then that is the only acceptable hat for him to wear.

Speaking of bad timing, I'm sure the Astros aren't exactly thrilled that their brand new prize of Miguel Tejada was named in the report.   I bet if they could travel back in time three days, they would not do the deal again.   As for the Orioles, I am surprised Brian Roberts is on the list.   Maybe that will lessen the chances that the Cubs trade for him.   And hopefully Eric Gagne's usage was old, because if he still used them this year, it's scary to think how bad he would be if he was clean.

It was very heartbreaking to hear that the names of 22 Yankees -former and current players- were listed in the Mitchell Report. This casts a shadow over the accomplishments of these teams. All of this I know is quite unfair to those players who dedicated themselves to playing hard and learning the game and play within their talents and GOD-given abilities. It also reveals the character of those that are willing to do "whatever it takes" to win. This seems to coincide with the huge salaries and the "pressure" to put up big numbers. Baseball largely ignored the use of performance enhancing substances for years, and now it is paying the price. It hurts for me to say this, but I do not think anyone who took, distributed, or injected another with these substances deserves to go into the Hall of Fame.

It's nice to see fans of Clemens seeing him for what he is. His latest defense of himself is embarrassing.
